After about two weeks of painting in this very large room, the bed is installed and the finished product is delivered to the client. The carriage bed took about two weeks to build and 3 days to paint. Installation was about 3-4 hours

More details being added in this step to the entry into the princess room. This image shows the basic vine structure weaving in and out of the painted arbor. Here I am beginning to add the leaves and then the flowers that will ultimately complete this section of the mural and the finishing touches to the overall room design. Next step install the carriage bed!!

The project is getting closer to the finish line in this photo. Here is where I begin to add all the details and shadows that will make this room appear to come alive. The process can become a bit tedious with all the leaves and flowers, but the end result makes the labor worth it!

Entry way design into the princess room. This barrel ceiling and small walkway provided an excellent opportunity to create an arbor and vines with flowers. In most of these custom children's rooms the composition is the key to a successful project. Utilizing the space and creating a believable environment in every corner of the room.

Here are some of the early stages of the princess room. Typically I begin by laying out the design directly on the wall. Position all the major components around the furniture placement and take care to visually create spaces within the room. The sky and mountain range are the first places to begin in this project.

Alright...after long neglecting this blog I am finally going to get it back up to speed. I have a ton of projects in the archives, so we will start with a few of them and maybe sprinkle in some new ones to keep it fresh! I will start by showing the different steps to create the princess room and carriage bed....stay tuned...

Fantasy Sky Phase 2

From the above image to the below (almost final image) This takes hours of blending working all the colors back in and out to achieve a smooth transition. The next step of this project is to get rid of all the white trim with a bronze patina and some heraldic griffin stencils to complete the look. (Drywall dust is everywhere as you can see reflecting in the flash on the camera)

Piano Room Phase 2

I know this picture is a little blurry....but I think it captures the spirit that not every day in the art world is a happy one. No matter how many times you do something or how experienced, mistakes are still unavoidable.

Here Max has finished the ceiling and is begining one of the first coats of the valentino plaster. This plaster takes 6 steps to achieve the finished look.....and it is well worth it!

Piano Room

Here Max is applying the first coat of plaster to the ceiling. This treatment will take two coats to achieve the finished product. The main challenge when working with plaster is to keep the lap lines to a minimum....Max is one of the best!

This image is the first picture of what will become the piano room. Notice the heavy wall texture. This was was no small project for the homeowner, he had to have all of this material removed and then new drywall applied to accept the venetian plaster.....lots of work and mess to correct this. The transformation of this house is really pretty incredible.

I will post the finished pictures of the faerie room next week. Here is the next project. We are currently in the process of finishing this entire home renovation. The homeowner is really into gothic style design as well as fantasy art. For his bedroom we are creating a purple fantasy sky to resemble an image he has thought about for many years. We will also be incorporating many different styles of faux finishes along with authentic venetian plaster throughout the entire home. Here is the image of the begining stages for the fantasy sky.

From the "bands" of color comes time to start airbrushing in the clouds. This is a little bit of a tricky sky since the orange and yellow work well together, the orange and purple do not. The orange and purple tend to "muddy up" instead of transition. I am also not the best photographer, so the colors are much more vibrant in person.

At this stage, I have already painted in the background behing the leaves. I outline random leaves shading as needed along the way.

Here you can see the background against some of the foreground leaves and flowers. I always include some highlights careful not to over do it.

Ok after a long time in the making we are ready to launch the new site. Surely we will be working out some kinks and adding elements as we progress...so please stay tuned for that. Since we have been working on the new site for some time now, we have a pretty good backlog of some interesting projects to start off the postings. I will try to take all the projects from the begining stages to the completion....and try my best to explain what is happening along the way. This section should give prospective new clients an opportunity to review the process and help inform muralists and artists of the techniques we use to achieve the finished products. Hope you enjoy!

Here is how all the work begins. We do a simple outline of what is to become the finished product. This is one of the most important stages and where most of the thought and weeks of preparation start to take shape. All good design is about the composition.

The chalk drawings are positioned for character visibility and furniture placement

This fairy (or faerie) room will consist of a beautiful fantasy sky, large flowers and all the other magical elements that make up a little girls room.

Since a basic chalk outline is a pretty weak way to start out a blog...here is the second step. This process is where we "block-in" all the general colors that will make up the finished design. Working from the background forward. Later I will show you the blending to make it all come together.

Now that we are officially on our way, I hope that you will check back to see some of our other projects. I have some really cool stuff yet to come along with some of the best craftsman in the Tampa Bay area and beyond.
